Special Needs Assistants

One of the most beneficial changes that has occurred in Garbally over the past few years has been the arrival of Special Needs Assistants back in 2006. Maureen Gormally was the sole Special Needs Assistant in the college; we now have seven and will do all to ensure all jobs are secured for the coming years.
The S.N.A. do invaluable work in the college. They help students make the transition to Post Primary Education. They have made a huge success of our Special Class. They help students in the vital areas of literacy and numeracy; we are lucky in the range of skills that the S.N.A bring to the college. They are so willing to help out in whatever way they can and this is deeply appreciated. Their “can do” culture has made such a positive difference to our college. As we write they are involved in such extracurricular and co-curricular activities as Junior Football, Costume and Stage Management for “Our Town” and preparing for the opening of Aras na mBuachaillí.
They have helped out on our Open Day in the Food Appreciation Facility, in the Library and in the Gym. As we observed before all of us in the college try to make a difference in the lives of our students and the Special Needs Assistants have constantly made that difference.
